Drying is performed in a shaded, well-ventilated area to ensure the preservation of bioactive compounds. The leaves must be turned periodically to prevent molding and ensure even drying.

In ornamental cultivation, deadheading the spent flower stalks is recommended. This not only improves the appearance of the garden but also promotes the growth of fresh, lush foliage.

Late-season maintenance includes cutting back the foliage once it starts to wither after the first frost. This clears the area of debris and provides a clean start for the next growth cycle.

Proper storage is essential to maintain quality; dried material should be kept in airtight containers in a cool, dark place. High-quality preserved leaves typically remain potent for up to two years.
