Cultivation requires deep, fertile, and well-drained soils. Because the plant is highly water-demanding, consistent rainfall or reliable irrigation systems are necessary for optimal development.

The ideal temperature for growth ranges from +20 to +32 degrees Celsius. It is extremely sensitive to cold and cannot tolerate frost, which restricts its cultivation to equatorial regions.
