OBSKAYA 2 is a variety of soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) developed by the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS. This medium-ripening and medium-height variety is recommended for cultivation in forest-steppe zones of the Novosibirsk region and included in the State Register for the West Siberian region. The plant features a semi-erect bush, medium straw length, and resistance to lodging, ensuring crop stability. The ear is pyramidal in shape, of medium density, white in color with short awn-like appendages, and the grain is colored. The waxy coating on the ear and straw ranges from medium to very strong, providing plant protection.
The average weight of 1000 grains is 34-41 grams, while the average yield in the West Siberian region reaches 22-23.3 centners per hectare, matching the level of average standards. Maximum yield can reach 55.6 centners per hectare under favorable conditions. The variety has good baking qualities, making it in demand for the production of high-quality flour and bakery products.
OBSKAYA 2 exhibits medium drought resistance but is susceptible to diseases such as powdery mildew, brown rust, root rots, and septoria. Cultivation recommendations include the Lowland and Mountain Foreland zones, as well as the Northern Forest-Steppe of the Novosibirsk region, enabling effective use of the variety in various agro-climatic conditions of the region.
