Winter wheat Areal Odeskyi — a variety developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing of Ukraine. It is intended for cultivation in the steppe zone and is characterized by a medium-early maturity group with a period of 280–287 days. The variety features intensive growth and development of plants during the autumn period, as well as the ability to quickly and repeatedly harden, ensuring high resistance to late sowing and adverse weather conditions.
This wheat variety has a low-growing form with plant height ranging from 78.6 to 109 cm and high productive tillering. The ear is pyramidal in shape, white in color, with red, large, elongated grains; the thousand-grain weight ranges from 43.2 to 45.8 g. Wheat Areal Odeskyi demonstrates high resistance to lodging, shattering, drought, frost, and major diseases such as rust, fusarium, and powdery mildew, confirmed by high resistance ratings.
In terms of grain quality, the variety has protein content ranging from 12.5–14%, high gluten content (up to 33%), and flour strength of 355–395 arbitrary units. Yield ranges from 51.8 to 56.6 centners per hectare, making it highly productive. Agronomically, the variety is resistant to various sowing conditions and effectively utilizes low and medium doses of nitrogen fertilizers. It is suitable for cultivation following non-traditional predecessors such as sunflower, rapeseed, mustard, and flax, thus expanding its application potential in crop rotation.
