ORTEGUS — this is a high-quality winter soft wheat variety, produced in Germany and registered in 2017. It is intended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including forest-steppe, polonyna, and steppe. The variety is characterized by early maturity and high yield, reaching an average of 57.5 to 72.7 c/ha depending on the region. Plants have medium height, and the number of spikes can reach 620 per square meter, with up to 35 grains per spike. The thousand-grain weight is about 48 grams, indicating good grain quality. ORTEGUS exhibits high resistance to various stress factors and diseases. The variety demonstrates excellent drought resistance, rated at 8.4–8.9 points, as well as high resistance to lodging and shattering. Among the diseases it is resistant to, include powdery mildew, rust, and fusarium, with resistance ratings of 8.6 to 9 points. These characteristics make this variety a reliable choice for farmers aiming to minimize crop losses and reduce crop protection costs. ORTEGUS wheat has high technological potential. Crude protein content varies from 7 to 9%, ensuring good flour quality and baking properties. Sedimentation and flour yield indicators are also at a high level, confirming the variety’s value for grain use. Recommended sowing dates are from early September to mid-October, with seeding rates depending on growing conditions.
