Odessa Position

Odessa Position is an early-maturing, awned winter wheat variety developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing of Ukraine. This variety is characterized by vigorous growth and development of plants during the autumn period, as well as the ability to quickly and repeatedly harden, ensuring high resilience when sown late. Morphologically, the variety resembles the Octava Odessa variety, distinguished by high productive tillering and large grain with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 43.2 to 45.8 grams. The ear is white and pyramidal in shape, with plant height of 102-109 cm.

Odessa Position exhibits high resistance to various stress factors and diseases, including lodging, shattering, drought, frost, brown rust, fusarium, and powdery mildew, confirmed by high resistance ratings (from 7.6 to 8.7). The variety demonstrates stable yield performance across various agronomic backgrounds and efficiently utilizes low and medium doses of nitrogen fertilizers (60-90 kg N/ha). It is suitable for cultivation following non-traditional preceding crops such as sunflower, rapeseed, mustard, and flax.

The maturity period of this variety is 285-287 days, classifying it as medium-maturing and maturing 1-2 days later than the Antonovka variety. Recommended cultivation zones include steppe, forest-steppe, and prairie regions. Average yield ranges from 5.18 to 5.66 t/ha, with potential yields in variety trials reaching 6.9-10.2 t/ha. The grain contains 12.5-13.7% protein and 25.3-33% gluten, ensuring high-quality flour with a strength of 355-395 standard units. Odessa Position is versatile in application, suitable for growing high-yield cereal crops with valuable grain composition.
