The vegetable pea variety SPRINTER is an ultra-early shelling variety intended for fresh consumption and processing. Plants reach a height of 50 to 70 cm, have white flowers and straight or slightly curved pods 6-9 cm long, containing 6-8 seeds. The peas are distinguished by uniform size, rich green color, and excellent taste, making them particularly attractive to consumers. The period from germination to technical maturity is 42-57 days, which allows for an early harvest.
The SPRINTER variety is characterized by high yield and synchronous ripening, which facilitates harvesting and increases growing efficiency. It is resistant to lodging and also possesses good resistance to diseases such as ascochitis and fusarium, while damage from codling moth is minimal. The peas contain a significant amount of dry matter (about 21.8%), sugars (3.6%), starch (6.7%), and vitamin C (13.8 mg%), ensuring high product quality and its suitability for freezing and canning.
For successful cultivation of the variety, it is recommended to choose fertile, calcium-rich loamy and medium loamy soils with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. Good soil aeration and placement in well-lit areas are important. Seeds are sown in open ground in early May at a depth of 3-5 cm depending on the soil type. Plants tolerate frosts down to -6°C well, which expands the possibilities for their cultivation in various climatic conditions. Crop rotation involves sowing peas after potatoes, cabbage, cucumber, or tomato, with an interval of not less than four years on the same site.
