Field pea Prelado

Genetic Protection and Productivity of Prelado

The vegetable pea variety 'Prelado' from Syngenta represents a benchmark in breeding, focused on early maturity and the commercial quality of large-seeded produce. The technological advantage of this hybrid lies in its ability to form a full-fledged crop within an extremely short vegetation period of 50–60 days.

Phytopathological Resistance

A key engineering decision in this hybrid is the integrated resistance to Fusarium wilt. In intensive vegetable farming, where crop rotation is often restricted, Fusarium poses a critical threat to field peas. The genetic profile of 'Prelado' minimizes losses during initial growth stages by blocking pathogen spread within the plant's vascular system.

Morphological Indicators and Yield

The technical value of the variety is defined by the following parameters:

• Large seeds: The weight of 1000 seeds ranges between 180–200 grams, ensuring high commercial mass yield per unit area.
• Crop structure: Each pod forms 7–8 plump peas. This high seed-to-pod ratio makes the hybrid economically efficient for mechanized harvesting.

The combination of a short vegetation period and robust disease resistance makes 'Prelado' an essential tool for creating a continuous supply chain for processing plants or fresh markets. It effectively reduces the time the crop spends in the field and mitigates risks associated with adverse summer weather conditions.
