Sugar beet Lena

Practical insights on growing KWS 'Lena' sugar beet

When selecting sugar beet hybrids, farmers often prioritize the reliability of the genetics. The 'Lena' hybrid, developed by KWS Saat SE, is a prime example of German engineering applied to agriculture. From an operational perspective, the round shape of the root crop is a significant advantage during mechanical harvesting. It ensures that standard harvesters operate smoothly, reducing field losses and minimizing damage to the roots, which simplifies post-harvest logistics.

Field performance and maintenance

In terms of maintenance, this hybrid is quite responsive to proper fertilization. However, it requires strict weed control during the early growth stages, as competition can significantly impact the final yield. The maintenance of the crop is straightforward; the standard equipment used for sugar beet cultivation handles this hybrid without any extra complexity.

Key advantages for the farm

• Proven German breeding from KWS Saat.
• Round root shape simplifies harvesting and transport.
• Predictable sugar accumulation dynamics.

For those managing the crop, the key to success with 'Lena' lies in respecting the recommended planting density. This allows each plant enough space to develop, ensuring a uniform and high-quality harvest. Because the genetics originate from KWS, the input-to-output ratio is usually favorable, making it a reliable choice for professional agricultural businesses aiming for stability in their harvest cycles. Following the standard agronomic protocols for this KWS hybrid consistently yields professional results.
