Sunflower hybrid SURO 162 is a mid-season variety distinguished by its high adaptability to various growing conditions, including drought-prone areas. The vegetation period is 114–118 days, and plant height reaches 175–185 cm. This hybrid is characterized by good pollen shedding and high seed purity, contributing to stable and high yields. Seeds weigh 57–65 g per 1000, and plant density at harvest is 55–60 thousand per hectare. The sunflower head is semi-perforated, which also affects the quality of the harvest.
SURO 162 exhibits resistance to major sunflower diseases, including sclerotinia, phomopsis, powdery mildew, gray mold, and new races of the foxglove parasite A-G. Thanks to its powerful root system, penetrating up to 4 meters deep, the plant effectively utilizes moisture from deep soil layers, ensuring drought resistance and rapid recovery after dehydration. Oil content in seeds reaches 48–51%, making this hybrid especially attractive for oil production.
For successful cultivation of SURO 162 sunflower, planting is recommended at soil temperatures of +10...+12°С for uniform and rapid emergence. The plant can withstand short-term frosts down to -5°С. Optimal soils are chernozems, dark chestnut, and chestnut soils with neutral or slightly acidic reaction. A key factor in achieving high yields is ensuring adequate soil moisture during the autumn-winter period and moderate rainfall during the vegetation period, especially during critical flowering and seed-filling stages. Seeds of the hybrid undergo basic seed treatment for protection against diseases and pests, enhancing the profitability of planting material.
