Sudan grass variety "PITERKA" is a late-maturing fodder cereal grown as green mass for cows, horses, and sheep. The variety is characterized by a mild taste and pleasant aroma, making it attractive to animals. The green mass contains a large amount of nutrients: sugar, proteins, ash, vitamins, and minerals.
PITERKA is characterized by high green mass yield – on average 46.2 centners per hectare, while maximum indicators reach 79 centners. Dry matter content is 29%, and foliation is 60.5%. The vegetative period from emergence to commercial maturity is 110-130 days, which allows for up to five cuts per season and collecting over 1000 centners of grass per hectare.
The variety has good resistance to lodging, drought, and diseases, including powdery mildew, red bacterial blight, and cereal aphid. After cutting, regrowth is high – comparable with the Kinskaya 100 variety. Cultivation technology is widely accepted: sowing in the second decade of May at an optimal standing density of 230-260 thousand plants per two hectares. PITERKA is also suitable for silage and hay production, which expands the possibilities for use in the feed industry.
