Volga is a variety of sorghum (Sorghum xdrummondii), an annual grass widely used in animal husbandry as a fodder crop. It is characterized by high productivity and nutritional value: it contains a large amount of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals, making it an excellent source of green mass, hay, silage, and silage.
The variety is characterized by early maturation and good leafiness. After cutting, the plant grows back quickly, and high levels of protein and sugar are maintained in the composition, which improves the quality of feed for animals. Sorghum Volga also shows salt- and drought-resistance, warmth-loving nature, and does not require specific soil types, making it convenient for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
Volga is recommended both as a standalone crop and in mixed sowings with annual grain legumes. Thanks to its structure, it contributes to soil improvement and can also be used as raw material for the production of biofuel. The variety was bred by crossing the Donetsk and Kamyshinskaya early-maturing varieties followed by free pollination, which ensured its high yield and stable quality indicators.
