Sudan grass variety Brodskaya 2 – a medium-early one-year grass species, grown as a fodder crop. Plants reach a height of 1.4 to 1.7 meters and form dense bushes with 7‑22 shoots, which ensures resistance to lodging and good regrowth after grazing or cutting. During a 100–120 day vegetative period, the plant forms 2‑3 full harvests, and with proper care, it can reach a height of up to 3 meters.
The fodder qualities of Brodskaya 2 are highly valued: green mass yield reaches 400 kg/hectare, hay – from 50 to 80 kg/hectare, and seeds – 8–13 kg/hectare. In 100 kg of hay, there are about 57 fodder units and 7.4 kg of digestible protein, and in green mass there is up to 12% protein. These indicators make the variety suitable for both green fodder production and seed production.
The variety is characterized by good adaptation to chernozem soils and drought resistance, but in cold years it may be affected by bacterial leaf spot and rust. For optimal growth, the application of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers is recommended: main – 30–45 kg of nitrogen and phosphorus, 20–30 kg of potassium; after cutting – 20–30 kg of nitrogen and potassium, 45 kg of phosphorus. Brodskaya 2 is widely used in the Aktobe and North Kazakhstan regions as a fodder crop with high content of easily digestible nutrients.
