VATUTINSKAYA

VATUTINSKAYA is a sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) variety characterized by medium-medium height and a compressed crown. The bush reaches a height of about 3 m, has a dense top, bluish-brown shoots of medium length, and a small number of thorns. Leaves are large, lanceolate, with a cuneate base, giving the plant a characteristic appearance.

Fruits of the «VATUTINSKAYA» variety are of medium size (about 0.58 g), round-oval, red with medium-thickness skin. They have an acidic taste and contain about 90% dry matter. Inside the fruit is juicy flesh rich in vitamins and minerals: vitamin C – 220 mg/100 g, carotene – 5.1%, oil – 4.5%. Sugar content is 2.4% with acidity 2.1%. These indicators make the berries highly valuable both in the food and industrial sectors.

The variety ripens in late August–early September (August 25–September 5) and is characterized by moderate yield – about 46 c/ha. It is frost-resistant down to -43 °C, which allows growing it in a wide range of climatic conditions. Thanks to universal application, fruits can be used as fresh berries, for making juices, compotes, canning, and other food products.

Important characteristics are high frost resistance, moderate plant height, dense crown, and medium yield. These properties make the «VATUTINSKAYA» variety attractive for both gardeners and berry product manufacturers.
