Jellable Hippophae rhamnoides is one of the most popular varieties of berry plants, known for its sweet and sweet-sour deliciousness. The bushes are upright, reaching up to 2.5 m in height and about 1.5 m in width, while the shoots are thornless, which facilitates care and fruit harvesting. The berries are oval, slightly elongated, weighing from 0.8 to 0.9 grams, vividly colored orange-red, making them attractive both fresh and when processed.
The variety is characterized by high yield – up to 12 kg of fruit per bush. It fruits from the fourth year after planting, and ripening occurs in August-September. Jellable withstands low temperatures and frosts down to -35 °C, making it suitable for cultivation even in colder regions. Disease resistance is high, so the plant rarely needs aggressive treatment.
Care for the bushes is simple: planting is done in March-April in fertile, loose soil; after planting, watering and mulching are required to retain moisture. Regular watering every two days helps avoid drought. From the 3rd year of growth, fertilization is recommended, while pruning – shaping pruning for the first three years, followed by regular sanitary cleanings to maintain the plant's health. Jellable can be used both fresh and for making jams, compotes, juices, or frozen for long-term storage, making it a versatile product for household use.
