Sea buckthorn Perchik

'Perchik' Sea Buckthorn: Breeding Excellence from MSU Botanical Garden

The 'Perchik' variety, developed by the Lomonosov Moscow State University Botanical Garden, has established itself as a versatile choice for both home gardens and ornamental landscapes. It is favored by growers who prioritize a balance between aesthetic appeal and high-quality nutritional yield.

Practical Farm Application

The primary use of the 'Perchik' sea buckthorn is universal. Due to its striking fruit color and moderate growth habit, it is frequently used for hedge planting. This serves a dual purpose: acting as a functional barrier while providing a steady supply of vitamin-rich berries. In terms of maintenance, the plant requires standard cultural practices, with mid-level thorniness on the shoots requiring the use of protective gloves during pruning.

• Harvesting and Use: The average berry weight is 0.5–0.7g. The bright orange fruit has a pronounced acidic taste, making it an ideal candidate for industrial processing: producing healing oils, juices, jams, and vitamin concentrates.
• Landscape Design: The variety exhibits excellent decorative characteristics, making it highly effective when planted in groups or as a focal point in a garden setting.
• Agrotechnics: The plant is relatively undemanding but requires full sun exposure and fertile soil to ensure stable yields. The medium thorniness of the shoots should be taken into account during crown shaping and maintenance.

By selecting 'Perchik' from the MSU Botanical Garden, you are acquiring time-tested breeding stock that has been adapted over decades to varying climatic conditions. It is a reliable solution for those seeking a practical, dual-purpose plant for their agricultural or gardening needs.
