Description
Sea buckthorn of the "Sayana" variety is a medium-sized shrub up to 2.5 m tall with a compact, spread-out crown and thick stems. The stems are thornless, branches are few in number, and the leaves are lanceolate in shape, dark green, and slightly curved at the lower part.
The fruits are large (about 0.6–0.8 g), oval-round in shape, bright orange in color with a dense skin. The taste is sour-sweet, rated approximately 4.5 points. Fruit stalks are short – 2–4 mm. The variety is characterized by a medium maturation period (fruiting begins in the third year after planting) and moderate yield: about 15 kg per shrub per season or 116–160 c/ha.
"Sayana" is resistant to diseases, pests, and low winter temperatures, making it suitable for growing in central and north-western regions. It is recommended to plant in sunny areas where the soil does not require special fertility; it grows best on moisture-rich fertile loam or loamy sandy soils of a light mechanical composition. The shrub can be used both for fresh consumption of fruits and for processing into sugar syrup, jams, and canned goods.
