Description TENYA
Sea buckthorn 'Tinya' – a dioecious, wind-pollinated dessert variety with medium height of about 0.8 m and medium fruit weight. Fruits are oval, bright orange, often with a small light spot on the tip and at the pedicel base; their weight ranges from 58 to 69 g, average – about 59 g. The sour-sweet taste is combined with a soft pulp consistency, and the rich orange color gives the fruit an attractive appearance.

The variety is characterized by high yield: up to 13 kg per bush and more than 28 t/ha with a placement scheme of 4 × 2 m. The harvest starts in the fourth year after planting, the season lasts from late August to early December. 'Tinya' has good winter hardiness and resistance to diseases and pests, including sea buckthorn mite. Fruits detach easily, which facilitates harvesting.

Biological properties of the fruits make them a valuable product for the food and pharmaceutical industries: they are rich in sugars, carotenoids, vitamin C, provitamin A, beta-sitosterol, and succinic acid. Thanks to these components, sea buckthorn 'Tinya' is used in fresh form, as well as for the production of juices, jams, compotes, jellies, marmalade, pastes, purées, and even wines. The plant can serve as a living hedge, aggressively suppressing the growth of neighboring berry bushes due to competition for nutrients.
