Sea buckthorn Casanova

Selection Profile and Morphology

The 'Casanova' sea buckthorn variety is a product of the I.V. Michurin Federal Scientific Center. The breeding strategy behind this variety focuses on balancing decorative aesthetics with high productivity. As a medium-height cultivar, it is well-suited for commercial orchards, as its growth habit simplifies canopy management and mechanical harvesting tasks.

Technical Specifications

The agronomic value of 'Casanova' lies in its biochemical profile: the fruits feature a distinct sweet-and-sour flavor, setting them apart from the astringent profiles of wild-growing types. Its high concentration of vitamins and organic acids makes this variety a versatile asset for both the fresh market and processing facilities.

• Bearing Type: Stable productivity levels when standard agricultural practices are maintained.
• Usage: The variety exhibits excellent shelf life and transportability, increasing its commercial viability.
• Ornamental Potential: The compact shrub structure allows for integration into landscape designs as a feature plant or within hedge configurations.

For growers, the primary technical advantage is the resilience to environmental stress factors integrated by the Michurin breeding team. While 'Casanova' requires standard light and drainage conditions typical of sea buckthorn, it shows a superior response to intensive fertilization regimes, which significantly enhances fruit quality and sugar-acid balance.
