DescriptionCasanova
Sea-buckthorn «Casanova» is a medium-drying fruit variety, distinguished by large fruits with a diameter of 6–8 cm and a weight of up to 200 g. The fruits have dense flesh, a bright reddish-brown color, and a sour taste with a slight sweetness upon ripening. The variety reaches maturity in August – early autumn, approximately 60–70 days after the start of growth.
The tree «Casanova» grows to a height of 4–5 m, has a straight trunk and dense branches. It withstands moderately dry climates and frosts down to -10 °C during the dormant period well. Preferably, it grows on fertile, well-drained soils with neutral or slightly alkaline pH 6–7; it grows in sunny areas but can withstand partial shading.
Care of the tree includes moderate watering during the active growth period and comprehensive fertilization (NPK) every 3–4 weeks. Pruning is carried out in late winter to maintain a height of 1–2 m after pruning. To prevent diseases and pests, it is necessary to regularly monitor the condition of the plant and, if necessary, apply insecticides against scale, moths, and spider mites, as well as combat root rot and powdery mildew.
Sea-buckthorn fruits «Casanova» are valued both in a home garden and in commercial cultivation. They are suitable for fresh consumption, making compotes, jams, and can also be used in the production of brandy and liqueurs due to their sour taste and bright coloring.
