Sea buckthorn GOMELSKAYA

Genetic Potential and Adaptive Resilience

The 'Gomelskaya' sea buckthorn variety is the result of extensive breeding efforts by the Botanical Garden of Moscow State University, in collaboration with the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture (LAMMC). Its primary technical advantage is its high resistance to fusarium wilt, a pathogen that poses a severe threat to commercial plantations. This resistance is rooted in a genetically determined protective mechanism within the root system, ensuring stable yields over long lifecycles.

Berry Morphology and Processing Suitability

The fruit possesses specific characteristics ideal for large-scale processing:

• Average berry weight: 0.7–0.9 g.
• Color: vibrant orange-red.
• Biochemical profile: A balanced sweet-and-sour flavor, combined with skin density that prevents breakage during mechanical harvesting.

The small pit size, paired with high pulp juiciness, makes 'Gomelskaya' a premium raw material for juice, essential oil, and preserve production. The firm structure of the berry ensures excellent shelf life and integrity during transport from field to processing facility.

Ornamental Value

Beyond its agronomic utility, 'Gomelskaya' features high ornamental value. During the fruiting season, the shrub, densely covered in bright orange-red berries, serves as an excellent element for landscape design and living fences. The synergy between agricultural efficiency and aesthetic appeal makes this variety a highly sought-after choice for professional orchards and decorative gardening projects.
