Chaenomeles DIMITRINA

The Dimitrina Quince: A Legacy of Botanical Selection

The 'Dimitrina' variety of Chaenomeles (flowering quince) stands as a testament to the rigorous breeding programs conducted at the Nikitsky Botanical Garden (NBS-NNTS RAS). Developed under the leadership of breeder Larisa Dmitrievna Komar-Tyomnaya, this cultivar bridges the gap between ornamental landscaping and productive fruit farming. It is a product of deep scientific heritage, offering consistent traits that distinguish it from wild, unpredictable varieties.

Key Botanical and Culinary Traits

Designed for both aesthetics and utility, 'Dimitrina' grows into a robust shrub, reaching a height of 1.5 to 2.0 meters. Its structure makes it an excellent choice for ornamental fencing or standalone garden displays. However, its primary value lies in its fruit production:

• Fruit Size: Yields large, impressive fruits ranging from 70 to 100 grams, a premium size for this category.
• Appearance: Displays a distinct yellow-green hue as the fruit matures.
• Flavor Profile: Offers a balanced, pleasant sweet-and-sour taste, making it suitable for fresh consumption rather than strictly being reserved for processing.

Market Positioning and Reliability

In the professional fruit market, 'Dimitrina' is recognized for its patent-protected quality and predictable yield parameters. As an offering from the Nikitsky Botanical Garden—an institution with a historic reputation—this cultivar provides the security of varietal purity. Whether for small-scale residential gardening or commercial cultivation targeting niche produce markets, 'Dimitrina' provides a reliable, high-performing solution for those seeking the optimal combination of plant beauty and fruit output.
