Description
Sokratovskaya – a sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) variety recognized for its high yield and fruit quality. The bush is vigorous, moderately spreading, up to 5 m tall, with thick, straight, spineless shoots. Leaves are large, green, slightly glossy, leathery, and smooth, ensuring good photosynthesis and resilience to unfavorable conditions.
The berries are of medium size, oval-shaped, orange-red in color, juicy and firm. Inside – a sour-sweet taste with medium skin thickness. Sugar content is 5.3%, acidity 1.7%, and vitamin C from 106 to 125 mg/100 g makes the berries a valuable source of antioxidants. Oil content in the berries is about 5%, and carotene – 34.9 mcg.
Yield reaches 93 c/ha, and fruiting begins as early as the third–fourth year after planting. The variety is moderately heat- and drought-resistant, with average frost hardiness, allowing cultivation in both southern and northern regions. The fruit can be used for canning, juice making, compotes, and other food products thanks to its rich taste and high nutritional properties.
