Description
The "Golden Cascade" variety is a medium-ripening sea buckthorn, with fruit available from August 25 to September 10. The bushes are medium-sized, strongly spreading, with branches of medium thickness and length, and without thorns, which facilitates fruit harvesting.
The fruits are oval-shaped, orange in color, weighing from 0.7 g to 0.9 g. They are juicy inside, with a sour-sweet taste and a characteristic aroma. Sugar content is about 5.4%, acidity is 1.3%, and vitamin C reaches 97 mg/100 g. The oil extract in the berries is approximately 2.5%. These indicators make the berries valuable for fresh consumption as well as for making juice, compote, and jam.
"Golden Cascade" is distinguished by its versatility: it can be eaten raw, used to make drinks and canned goods. The tasting score for taste is 4.0–4.1 points out of five possible, confirming the high quality of the product. The variety's yield is about 12.8 tons/ha, and the plant is resistant to moderate frosts and drought, although it may be susceptible to endomycosis and damage by sea buckthorn fly.
