Sea buckthorn "Kyiv Amber" is a variety of fruit shrubs that is distinguished by high yield and excellent climatic characteristics. Bushes reach a height of 100–120 cm, have medium height and are thornless, which facilitates care and fruit harvesting. Fruits begin to bear in the third or fourth year after planting, and in a mature state, the plant can produce up to 15 kg of berries annually.
The berries of the "Kyiv Amber" variety have an orange color, oval shape, and a mass of up to 1 g. They are sour-sweet, aromatic, and rich in carotene, which makes them valuable both in cooking and in medicine. The ripening period is early – beginning of August, and berry detachment is easy, which simplifies harvesting.
The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness up to -40 °C and good disease resistance, so it can be grown even in harsh climatic conditions. For successful growth, well-lit areas and fertile soil are required; the plant does not grow well on acidic soils. When planting, seedlings are wrapped in black stretch film or placed in a cardboard box, and the roots are dipped in a clay solution "bolkushka" to prevent drying out during transport.
Kyiv Amber is suitable both for decorative gardening and for use in medicinal purposes due to its high content of vitamins and minerals. It requires pollination by a male variety, but self-fertility is absent, so it is recommended to plant several bushes of different sexes to ensure fruiting.
