Potato Latona

Latona: Premium Dutch Genetics from HZPC

When selecting potato varieties, stability is the most critical factor for profitability. The 'Latona' variety, developed by the world-renowned breeder HZPC, represents a gold standard in Dutch seed production. Designed for growers who prioritize consistent tuber shape and high resistance to soil-borne diseases, Latona remains a staple in professional farming.

Why Latona stands out

• Superior Disease Resistance: Latona offers robust natural defense against the golden potato cyst nematode and potato wart. Furthermore, its resistance to common scab and various viral diseases helps reduce the reliance on chemical inputs, allowing for a more sustainable and cost-effective production cycle.
• Commercial Appeal: The variety produces uniform, round-oval tubers with a smooth yellow skin. The shallow eyes are a massive benefit for packing lines and retail, significantly reducing preparation time for the end consumer.
• Culinary Excellence: With a dry matter content of 20–21%, Latona strikes a perfect balance. It cooks evenly, retains its shape, and has a pleasant texture, making it versatile for both direct retail and processing markets.

Growing Cycle and Performance

With a maturity period of 75–85 days, Latona fits perfectly into a medium-early harvesting window. This timing allows growers to hit the peak market demand with high-quality produce. While it requires standard monitoring for late blight, its vigorous growth habit and ability to produce a high count of uniform tubers make it highly efficient on various soil types.

The combination of internal quality—characterized by its light yellow flesh—and the resilience to field challenges makes Latona an optimal choice for commercial farmers. Whether you are aiming for fresh market sales or long-term storage, this variety provides the reliability you need to secure your ROI.
