Potato Victoria

Genetic Potential and Agronomic Metrics

The Dutch breeding program by HZPC focuses on the "Victoria" variety, balancing consumer preferences with field robustness. This mid-early table potato exhibits a growth cycle of 70–80 days, allowing for stable yield projections in temperate climates under standard agronomic practices.

Technical Breakdown of Tuber Composition

The morphological characteristics of Victoria are optimized for mechanical harvesting and long-term storage:

• Fraction: Tuber weight ranges from 90–150 grams, meeting the industry standard for retail and culinary processing.
• Surface: The smooth skin texture combined with shallow eyes minimizes waste during primary peeling.
• Flesh: The deep yellow color, driven by a high carotenoid content, pairs with a starch content of 12–14%, ensuring a firm structure that maintains integrity during thermal processing.

Phytosanitary Resilience

The HZPC engineering approach to protecting Victoria from pathogens reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications. Genetically inherent resistance to potato wart and golden potato cyst nematode makes the variety suitable for plots at high risk of soil-borne pest infestation. High tolerance to potato leaf roll virus, late blight, and common scab ensures that the marketable appearance of the crop remains intact, even in humid or cool growing seasons.
