Potato FAVOLA

German Breeding for Professional Standards

In the table potato market, the name Europlant Pflanzenzucht has long been synonymous with reliability and predictable yields. The "Favola" variety is a prime example of German breeding excellence, tailored for farmers who refuse to compromise between tuber quality and disease resistance. Combining the genetic potential of several Europlant research centers, this variety firmly holds its place as a versatile, mid-season performer.

Agronomic Potential and Protection

One of Favola’s core strengths is its balanced immune system. In modern agronomy, where viral and fungal threats are increasingly aggressive, this variety exhibits robust resistance to a complex array of diseases that can significantly impact the yields of less resilient counterparts:

• Soil Pathogens: High resistance threshold against potato cyst nematode and potato wart.
• Surface Integrity: Its smooth skin and resistance to common scab ensure a premium market appearance, highly valued by supermarket chains.
• Viral Pressure: The variety shows strong resistance to leafroll virus, which is critical for maintaining the reproductive health of the seed stock.

With a vegetation period of 75–85 days, Favola allows for precise harvesting schedules, helping to avoid peak heat stress and minimizing the risk of late blight, to which the variety displays notable tolerance.

Culinary Profile and Marketability

Favola is first and foremost an aesthetically pleasing commercial tuber. Its oval to round-oval shape, combined with a smooth, light yellow/creamy skin, makes it a top choice for the washing and packaging segment. The creamy flesh, with a starch content of 11–12%, defines its culinary character. It is an excellent table potato that holds its shape well when boiled, yet it possesses sufficient processing potential, including suitability for chip production. The average tuber weight of 50–130 grams is the "gold standard" for retail, ensuring minimal peeling waste and optimal portion sizing for consumers.

By choosing Favola, growers invest not only in harvest volume but also in market liquidity. The variety is virtually free from malformation defects, significantly reducing sorting losses during pre-market preparation.
