Description Opal
The Opal potato variety is a mid-early, high-yielding German selection, suitable for both table use and industrial processing, particularly for chip and dried potato product production. The tubers have a round-oval shape with yellow skin and light-yellow flesh, dense and uniform texture. The average tuber weight ranges from 90 to 150 grams, and dry matter content reaches 23.5%, ensuring excellent flavor and good culinary versatility: suitable for boiling, baking, and mashing.

The plant exhibits medium height and semi-erect stem type, with medium-sized leaves. Yield varies from 119 to 284 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching up to 403 centners. The number of tubers per plant ranges from 8 to 13. Harvest quality is high — from 80 to 93%, and storability reaches 96%, allowing long-term storage at recommended temperature around +4 °C.

The Opal variety is resistant to several diseases and pests, including potato late blight, golden nematode, phytophthora blight and tuber rot, as well as crinkle and streak mosaic and leaf curl. Thanks to these characteristics and standard cultivation practices, Opal is a reliable choice for farmers seeking high-quality, stable potato yields with excellent consumer properties.
