Description
The pea variety Torpedo is a high-yielding, mid-early shelling type with yellow seeds, exhibiting excellent adaptability to various soil types and drought resistance. The plant is compact, with a simple, sturdy stem reaching approximately 70-75 cm in height, and is moderately leafy. The flowers are white, arranged in clusters of three, promoting synchronized pod maturation. Pods are elongated-oval, measuring 8-9 cm in length and 1.2-1.3 cm in width, slightly curved with a pointed tip, covered with a parchment-like layer, and contain 7-8 medium to large, wrinkled green seeds with a matte surface. The period from emergence to technical maturity is 65-70 days, allowing harvest in June-July when sown in March-April. The pea exhibits uniform ripening, high resistance to complex diseases including fusarium, and good resistance to shattering, minimizing losses during harvest. The plant develops rapidly in early stages and can successfully grow even under partial shade. Seeds are recommended to be sown in rows with spacing of 15-20 cm between rows and 5-8 cm between seeds, at a depth of about 5 cm. The Torpedo pea is widely used for canning due to its sweet and flavorful seeds. It is recommended to sow in stages, using varieties with different maturation times, to ensure continuous harvest. This variety combines high productivity, resilience to adverse conditions, and excellent taste qualities, making it attractive for cultivation both on an industrial scale and in home gardens.
