Pea Kozachok

Consistency in Challenging Climates

The «Kozachok» pea variety, developed by the Breeding and Genetics Institute (BGI, Odesa), is a strategic choice for farmers operating in volatile weather conditions. Unlike high-input foreign hybrids that require perfect management, «Kozachok» offers superior adaptability to Ukrainian soil and climate, proving itself as a reliable performer for producers seeking to mitigate production risks.

Key Advantages

• Phytosanitary Resilience: The BGI breeding focus ensures robust field tolerance to major fungal pathogens. The variety displays strong resistance to Fusarium wilt and powdery mildew, significantly reducing the economic burden of fungicide applications throughout the growing season.
• Optimal Morphology: The medium height of the plants ensures efficient nutrient partitioning and facilitates mechanized harvesting. High lodging resistance is a standout feature, crucial for smooth operation of combine harvesters during direct harvesting.
• Environmental Adaptability: The variety efficiently utilizes spring moisture and possesses a vegetative cycle that allows it to mature before the onset of extreme summer droughts, common in the central and southern regions of the country.

Targeted Applications

«Kozachok» is best suited for large- and medium-scale agricultural operations utilizing extensive or semi-intensive farming systems. It is the ideal candidate for those looking to balance seed costs with consistent market-grade yields. The variety is highly forgiving regarding crop management, making it an excellent choice for operations looking to optimize their spending on plant protection products while maintaining reliable output.

While the variety shows high disease resistance, proper seeding density must be observed; excessive density may inhibit yield potential due to intraspecific competition. Furthermore, «Kozachok» serves as an excellent preceding crop for winter cereals, effectively improving soil nitrogen levels and overall field fertility.
