Pea Balkan

French Breeding for Consistent Yields

The «Balkan» pea variety from the French breeding house Laboulet Semences is a strategic choice for farmers focused on predictable vegetation cycles and harvest efficiency. Developed by the team at Patrice Laboulet, this variety combines high European standards of seed quality with adaptability to diverse soil and climatic conditions.

Key Specifications

• Vegetation period: 70–80 days. This places the variety in the mid-early segment, allowing for flexible crop rotation planning and avoiding peak summer drought stress.
• Morphology: The plant features a medium height, providing an optimal balance between canopy development and resistance to lodging.
• Genetics: High line purity, guaranteed by originators Iar Agri and Alres - Laboulet Semences, ensures uniform germination and consistent crop stands.

Strengths and Application

The primary strength of the «Balkan» variety is consistency. Unlike high-stature or ultra-early varieties, it is less sensitive to tight harvest windows, providing agronomists with a 3–5 day margin without significant grain quality degradation. Laboulet’s breeding program focuses on grain filling, which results in high thousand-seed weight metrics. It is an ideal fit for operations that value reliable European genetics and seek a crop with a well-defined development cycle. The «Balkan» variety is a precision tool for intensive farming, where every hectare counts and agronomic accuracy is paramount.
