Smooth brome Licato

German Breeding for Productive Longevity

The 'Likato' smooth brome variety is a product of intensive research by the German breeders at Euro Grass Breeding KG. In modern forage production, selecting the right variety is the deciding factor for both biomass yield and long-term sward stability. This variety was developed with a focus on high growth intensity and superior digestibility, positioning it as a strategic asset for operations specializing in haylage and pasture-based livestock farming.

Likato in the Field: Key Performance Traits

For agronomists managing perennial grasses, 'Likato' offers an ideal balance between early-stage growth vigor and resilience against environmental stressors. Its German origin, rooted in the expertise of the Deutsche Saatveredelung group, ensures compliance with strict European seed quality standards. Key benefits of integrating this variety into a crop rotation include:

• High Tillering Density: Creates a dense turf that effectively suppresses weed development.
• Soil Adaptability: Maintains stable yields across a variety of soil types, from light to medium loams.
• High Feed Quality: Excellent protein content and fiber digestibility make it a top-tier choice for the dairy sector.

Unlike wild varieties, 'Likato' exhibits highly predictable vegetation cycles. Under industrial conditions, it shows impressive regrowth rates following harvesting, allowing for precise forage procurement planning. When standard agronomic practices are followed, the variety demonstrates remarkable persistence in the field, maintaining productivity for 4–6 years and significantly reducing long-term reseeding costs.
