The grape variety Novokuban was bred by V.E. Kolomietz on the territory of the 'Novokubanskoye' collective farm in the Novokuban district of the Krasnodar region, as a result of selection from the Isabella variety. This variety belongs to the late ripening period; harvest is collected in early October. Bushes are vigorous with well-ripening canes, large leaves, predominantly three-lobed with a dense felted pubescence on the underside. Bunches are of medium size, conical shape with moderate density, while berries are round, green in color with a pronounced aroma of strawberry and pineapple.
Novokuban is distinguished by high frost and winter hardiness, capable of withstanding temperatures down to -31 degrees Celsius, which allows for cultivation without winter cover. The variety is resistant to root phylloxera and also possesses increased tolerance to diseases such as downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray mold. Yield is stable and very high - from 15 to 18 kg per bush. Sugar content of berry juice is about 18 g per 100 cm3 with titratable acidity of 7.7 g/dm3.
Berries of the Novokuban variety are used mainly for the production of white dessert wines. Wine from this variety is distinguished by a pleasant golden hue, a light fruity aroma with notes of berries and exotic fruits, as well as a silky taste with pronounced shades of strawberry and blackcurrant. Due to its characteristics and resistance, the variety is recommended for cultivation on large areas in rootstock culture without the need for winter cover.
