Levkumskiy is a table grape variety of folk selection intended for wine production. It ripens at the end of August, has a fruiting period of about 130 days, and is characterized by high yields of up to 130 c/ha. The bushes of the variety have above-average growth, forming cylindro-conical clusters of medium density weighing 90-120 g. The berries are small, round, black with juicy flesh and simple taste, with the juice being uncolored. Sugar content in the berries reaches 20-22%, while acidity varies within the range of 4.9-6.2 g/l, making the variety a good sugar accumulator and suitable for winemaking.
The Levkumskiy variety has high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to -27°C, which allows it to be grown without shelter even in regions with harsh winters, including the central belt and Siberia. It is distinguished by resistance to major fungal diseases such as downy mildew and gray rot, as well as tolerance to powdery mildew and phylloxera. Thanks to these qualities, the variety is widely distributed both in industrial plantations in the southern part of the country and among amateur vintners beyond the traditional growing area.
For growing Levkumskiy, a planting scheme of 3 by 1.5 meters is recommended with the bush formation in the form of a double-arm cordons or fan shape. The load on the bush is 40-50 buds, and pruning is carried out on 3-5 buds. The variety is well compatible with common rootstocks and requires minimal care, including 1-2 preventive treatments against fungal diseases. These features make Levkumskiy a reliable and productive choice for vintners seeking a stable and quality harvest.
