Description Malachite
MALACHITE – a perennial ornamental grass of the mint family, widely used in landscape design as a lawn substitute or an element of compositions. The plant reaches a height of 20 to 60 cm, has small, narrow, blue-grey leaves covered with a thin grey-blue pigment. Flowers are small, white or purple, gathered in short panicles, opening in spring and early autumn, adding a delicate light-green tint to the garden.

For successful cultivation of oatgrass, moist, fertile soil with good drainage is required – sandy or clay soils. The plant prefers sunny and semi-shaded places, but can tolerate light shade. Care for it is minimal: regular watering during the growth period, removal of dead leaves after flowering, and moderate fertilization once a month with nitrogenous complexes. When transplanting, it is recommended to use mulch to retain moisture.

Main problems – fungal infections (mould fungi, root rot), viral diseases and pests such as mites, spider mites, aphids and scale insects. Prevention includes regular inspection of the plant, timely removal of affected parts and the use of antiseptics if necessary. Thanks to frost hardiness down to -25 °C, oatgrass is suitable for use in various climatic conditions, and its decorative texture makes it an ideal choice as a lawn substitute on small areas or an element of compositions with other grasses and shrubs.
