Fescue Lyudmila

A Compact Choice for Landscape Design

The 'Lyudmila' fescue, a selection by the Ural Federal Agrarian Research Center (UrFANITS), is a specialized variety bred specifically for ornamental horticulture. In the category of ornamental grasses, this variety stands out due to its predictable architecture: reaching a height of 20–40 cm, the plant forms dense, neat tussocks that do not require frequent structural pruning.

Visual Impact and Environmental Adaptation

The signature feature of 'Lyudmila' is its deep, dark green leaf coloration. Unlike many introduced fescue cultivars, 'Lyudmila' is engineered to withstand temperate climates, making it a reliable choice for professional landscapers working in regions with variable weather patterns. The focus of the originators was placed on endurance and consistent seasonal performance.

Key Advantages and Applications

• Structural Integrity: Its low-growing habit (20–40 cm) makes it an essential tool for borders, rock gardens, and stone garden arrangements where maintaining a visual rhythm is crucial.
• Color Consistency: The intense dark green hue persists throughout most of the growing season, providing a stable contrast against flowering perennials.
• Low Maintenance: The variety is hardy, requiring minimal intervention, though it performs best in well-drained soil conditions.

'Lyudmila' is an optimal solution for those seeking reliable planting material for sustainable landscape projects. As a product of specific regional selection, it offers superior adaptation compared to imported hybrids that may struggle in local microclimates. It is perfectly suited for municipal parks, private gardens, and urban greening initiatives where aesthetic durability is a priority.
