Fescue LIEHEROLD

Genetic Resistance to Phytopathogens

The 'Licherold' fescue variety, developed by the German breeding company Deutsche Saatveredelung, is the result of long-term breeding focused on overcoming a major challenge in forage and turf management: powdery mildew. In high-humidity conditions, this pathogen can reduce photosynthetic activity by up to 40%. The genetic framework, established by the originator Euro Grass Breeding KG, ensures strong resistance to Erysiphe graminis, which is essential for maintaining the nutritional value of the green mass without excessive fungicide application.

Morphological Parameters and Growth Dynamics

This variety belongs to the medium-height fescue category. The height of the generative shoots ranges from 60 to 100 cm. This specific height range is chosen to prevent lodging under intensive nitrogen fertilization, ensuring an optimal biomass volume for haymaking or grazing. The well-developed root system enables the plant to compete efficiently for moisture, making 'Licherold' resilient against climatic stress.

Practical Breeding Benefits

• Turf Density: The variety forms a dense sod that is highly resistant to mechanical wear.
• Nutritional Profile: Excellent leafiness and a balanced chemical composition ensure superior palatability for livestock.
• Reliability: German breeding standards from Deutsche Saatveredelung guarantee high germination rates and consistent quality.

Investing in 'Licherold' is a strategic choice for consistent yields, leveraging superior biological resilience and a high regenerative capacity after cutting.
