Fescue BARCEZAR

Working with 'Barcesar': A Reliable Fescue for Tough Conditions

When dealing with forage crops, the biggest challenge is climate volatility. Unlike more sensitive grass varieties, this Dutch-bred cultivar shows impressive resilience in both drought conditions and on heavy, water-logged soils.

Operational Performance

During establishment, 'Barcesar' shows strong germination energy. In the first year, while the root system is developing, you need to be careful with the first cut. However, by the second year, the tillering is so dense that it naturally suppresses almost all weed competition. In terms of maintenance, it’s a low-effort crop; it doesn’t require complex agronomic tricks beyond standard nitrogen fertilization after each cut to keep the biomass production steady.

Forage Quality and Durability

Thanks to Barenbrug's breeding, the leaves of 'Barcesar' remain relatively soft even as the plant matures. Livestock eat it readily, and the nutritional value stays consistent throughout the season.

• Durability: Highly resistant to trampling; it handles high-intensity grazing very well.
• Regrowth: Recovers quickly after cutting, allowing for 3-4 harvests per season, even without artificial irrigation.

If you are looking for a crop that demands minimal attention while providing a stable, high-quality yield, 'Barcesar' is a 'plant and forget' solution. The Dutch genetics truly deliver on their promise here.
