Barian oatgrass is a high-value oat variety intended for cultivation in temperate climatic conditions. The variety is characterized by rapid growth: the period from sowing to harvest ranges from 90 to 125 days, with the plant reaching a height of approximately 70 cm. Yield can reach 8–9 kg/ha (some sources mention up to 6 t/ha), making it attractive both for grain production and forage purposes.
The quality of Barian grain is characterized by large, dense grains with high protein content (12–13%) and starch content (~10%). The soft texture makes it suitable for flour production and bakery products. The variety exhibits good resistance to powdery mildew, ergot, powdery scab, and other fungal diseases, as well as moderate protection against insect pests.
Barian can be grown using both traditional cultivation methods and modern agronomic programs with the use of fertilizers and irrigation. Soil requirements include fertile, well-drained soil with pH 5.5–6.5. When stored correctly, the grain maintains its quality for up to six months. Due to low costs for fertilizers and protective agents, the variety ensures high profitability for farmers.
