Kochia trichophylla (Cypress Kochia) – a decorative evergreen plant that resembles a small cypress. The bushes have an elongated oval shape and reach a height of 60–80 cm; they are densely branched, making them ideal for creating living fences of any height and configuration. The leaves are narrow and small, changing color throughout the growing season: from light green at the beginning of summer to saturated red shades in autumn, adding bright seasonal dynamics to the garden.
Kochia is highly drought-resistant and moderately frost-hardy. The plant prefers sunny locations but can tolerate slight shading without losing its decorative value. Seeds are sown in May or grown from seedlings in April; after germination, the bushes are transplanted and planted in a permanent location after the last frost. Thanks to simple care – regular pruning, thinning if necessary – kochia is easy to maintain as a living fence or use as a separate element of a composition.
In landscape design, kochia is often used to create borders, flower beds, and mixed borders. Its compact shrubs are easily pruned, allowing for various shapes and patterns to be formed. The plant does not require frequent watering and is not susceptible to common diseases, so it is suitable for both professional landscape design and home gardens.
