Cochia arborescens – a foliage ornamental plant, which in the form of densely branched bushes 60 to 80 cm in height resembles a real cypress. The leaves are narrow and small, their color changes during the season: from light green in early summer to various shades of red in autumn, which gives the plant a picturesque seasonal effect.
The plant is characterized by high resistance to diseases and good drought tolerance. Cochia is easy to grow from seeds – they germinate quickly and give sturdy shrubs. For planting, direct sowing in open ground in May or seedlings, transplanted in April after pricking, can be used. After the end of frosts, plants are transplanted to a permanent place. Cochia grows well both on fertile soils and on light soils, while preferring sunny areas with the possibility of partial shade.
Cochia is often used in landscape design: for living hedges, borders, flower beds, and large compositions. Thanks to simple care and the ability to regular pruning, the plant is easily modeled in the form of four-sided hedges, spheres, or figures. This makes cochia a universal element for both small garden plots and large landscape projects.
