Originating from the Mediterranean Basin, the olive tree has been successfully introduced to other regions with Mediterranean-type climates, including parts of California, Australia, and South America. These regions provide the necessary conditions: long, warm summers for fruit ripening and mild winters that do not jeopardize the tree's health through freezing temperatures.
From a botanical perspective, the olive tree is characterized by its silvery-green lanceolate leaves and a gnarled, robust trunk.
