The larvae of these insects develop in moist soil environments, which are rich in organic matter. Their life cycle consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically laid in soil or moss. Upon hatching, the larvae penetrate the substrate. Depending on the species and environmental conditions, the development from larva to adult can take several weeks, allowing for multiple generations per season in favorable climates.
