VOLZHSKAYA K

Volzhskaya K is a soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety developed by individual selection at JSC "NPK Selection" in Ulyanovsk. This medium-maturing variety belongs to the forest-steppe ecological group and the erythrospermum subspecies. The plant is medium-height, reaching up to 95-100 cm, with a pyramidal, medium-density, white awned ear. The grain is red, oval-egg shaped with a long awn, with a mass of 1000 grains averaging 36-48 g. The ear scale's keel tooth is long and moderately curved, which is a characteristic feature of the variety.

The variety has enhanced winter hardiness and drought and heat resistance at the level of the standard, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions, including the Volga-Vyatsky and Ural regions. The vegetation period ranges from 304 to 348 days. Volzhskaya K is characterized by good baking qualities: gluten content in flour reaches 29.6%, grain vitreousness is 58%, and bread assessment is 4.1 points. The variety is resistant to lodging and grain shedding, contributing to high yields, which can exceed 10 t/ha, and in some cases reach record figures, for example, 95.7 c/ha in the Czech Republic.

Despite a number of advantages, the variety is susceptible to brown rust, snow mold, and root rots, which requires a careful approach to plant protection. It is recommended to grow Volzhskaya K on fertilized fallows and the best non-fallow predecessors, which contributes to the maximum manifestation of its potential. Thanks to the combination of high yield, resistance to unfavorable conditions, and excellent grain technological characteristics, Volzhskaya K is a promising choice for agricultural producers in regions with suitable climatic conditions.
