Donsoy Surprise — a variety of soft winter wheat belonging to medium-early and dwarf plants with high lodging resistance. It was created by intraspecific complex stepwise hybridization and belongs to the lutescens variety of the southern ecological group of steppe wheats. Plants of this variety grow 12-14 cm shorter than the Don-93 variety, while having a short stem and high lodging resistance, ensuring crop stability. The wheat head is spindle-shaped, of medium length and density, and the mass of 1000 grains ranges from 39 to 47 grams. The variety is characterized by high frost hardiness and resistance to spring frosts, as well as drought resistance, which allows for successful cultivation in various regions, including the North Caucasus, Lower Volga, and Central Black Soil regions of Russia, as well as Armenia. Donsoy Surprise is resistant to diseases such as brown and yellow rust, powdery bunt, while being moderately resistant to powdery mildew and septoria. It is capable of forming high yields even when sown in optimal and late terms due to additional tillering in the early spring period. The yield of the variety reaches a maximum of 84.8 c/ha, and the potential grain productivity is up to 10 t/ha. In terms of milling and baking qualities, Donsoy Surprise belongs to strong wheat varieties, not inferior to such varieties as Don-85 and Don-93. The recommended sowing rate is 4.5-5.0 million viable seeds per hectare. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, the variety is widely used in the agricultural sector to obtain high-quality grain with excellent baking properties.
