VOLZHSKAYA 100

VOLZHSKAYA 100 is a variety of winter soft wheat belonging to the forest steppe ecological group. It was bred by individual selection from a population obtained by crossing Kharkovskaya 92 with KSi breeding samples, and registered in 2004. The variety is characterized by a pyramidal white awned spikelet of medium density, large-grained red grain with a long tuft. The weight of 1000 grains ranges from 36 to 48 grams, which confirms its large-seededness. Plant height ranges from 74 to 117 cm, and the bush is semi-erect.

VOLZHSKAYA 100 is characterized by high yields with average rates reaching 28.6 c/ha, and maximum yield can reach 95.4 c/ha. The variety has increased winter hardiness comparable to varieties Mironovskaya 808 and Lutescens 9, as well as good drought resistance and shedding resistance. However, it is susceptible to brown rust, highly susceptible to snow mold and root rot, and also prone to Fusarium.

The endosperm of the variety belongs to soft-grained wheat, which makes VOLZHSKAYA 100 suitable for confectionery production, compound feed and alcohol. The gluten content in flour is 26.5%, corresponding to quality group II, and baking qualities are rated as good. The variety is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Volga-Vyatka region and the Urals, as well as in the Mari El Republic, Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Bashkortostan.
