Volzskaya S 3 is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), characterized by medium-early maturity and medium-height plant type. Plant height varies from 74 to 117 cm, with a semi-erect bush and a white, medium-density spike. The grain is oval-egg-shaped, colored, with a long awn; the mass of 1000 grains is 36-48 g. The variety belongs to the erythrosporum group and possesses good baking qualities, making it in demand for the production of quality flour and baked goods.
The variety is distinguished by increased winter hardiness, comparable to varieties Myronovskaya 808 and Lutesens 9, as well as high drought tolerance and resistance to grain shattering. Under field conditions, it shows moderate resistance to brown rust and powdery mildew, but is susceptible to snow mold and root rots. Moreover, severe fusarium head blight is noted, which requires attention in agro-technical measures. At the same time, the variety is resistant to lodging, which contributes to yield preservation and facilitates harvesting.
It is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Volga-Vyatka, Ural, North Caucasian regions, as well as in the Republic of Mari El, Nizhny Novgorod region, Republic of Bashkortostan, and Rostov region. Average yield in the North Caucasian region reaches 50.2 c/ha, indicating the high productivity of the variety. Volzskaya S 3 is suitable for cultivation in moderate climate conditions with possible droughts, ensuring a stable and quality yield of soft winter wheat.
