The Breeding Legacy of Bila Tserkva: The 'Tsarivna' Wheat

The winter wheat 'Tsarivna', developed by the experts at the Bila Tserkva Research Station named after O.K. Kolomiiets, serves as a prime example of Ukrainian breeding adapted to the region's complex climatic conditions. In times of volatile climate, choosing a variety that combines high productivity with reliable pathogen resistance is the defining factor for agricultural profitability.

Biological Parameters and Adaptability

'Tsarivna' is a soft winter wheat variety demonstrating stability across various agricultural conditions. The plants reach a height of 90-100 cm, which is an optimal parameter for most combine harvesters and ensures a balance between vegetative mass and efficient grain filling. The awned spikes contribute not only to protection against pests but also to proper moisture distribution during the ripening phase.

Grain Quality and Yield Potential

Farmers choose 'Tsarivna' primarily for its high baking quality. With a gluten content exceeding 30%, the variety confidently meets the standards for high-quality milling wheat. A potential yield of 9-10 tons per hectare confirms the effectiveness of the selection developments from the Kolomiiets Station, provided that proper cultivation technology is followed.

Phytosanitary Shield

One of the key characteristics of the variety is its natural resistance to a complex of diseases that annually impact agricultural profits:

• High tolerance threshold against root rots and Fusarium head blight.
• Effective resistance against brown leaf rust and Septoria.
• Reduced risk of infection by powdery mildew and Mycosphaerella leaf blotch.

The 1,000-grain weight ranges between 45-50 grams, which ensures the formation of a robust stand and high-quality grain structure. This variety is the choice for those who value proven genetics and aim to minimize risks associated with weather stress and infectious backgrounds.
