Description

Novoershovskaya is a soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety of medium maturity, created at the Yershov experimental station of the FANC of the South-East. This variety belongs to the velutinum group and is characterized by a cylindrical white ear of medium length with pubescence and short awn-like appendages. The plant is of medium length, 81 to 106 cm in height, with an intermediate bush type. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 36 to 45 grams; the grain is of oval shape with red coloration and a medium furrow. The vegetative period is 264-298 days, with ripening occurring in terms close to the standard varieties Levoberzhnaya 1 and Saratovskaya 90. The Novoershovskaya variety possesses enhanced winter hardiness, comparable to the varieties Myronovskaya 808 and Saratovskaya 90, as well as lodging resistance at the level of Don 93 and Saratovskaya 90. Drought resistance is close to the standard Levoberzhnaya 1, which makes it adapted to the conditions of the Volga region and the Middle Volga, Lower Volga, and Ural regions. In field conditions, the variety shows resistance to main diseases: septoria affects it weakly, brown rust and powdery mildew — to a moderate degree, while infection by hard bunt is not observed. Novoershovskaya is distinguished by high yield and excellent bread-making qualities of the grain, which makes it commercially valuable. The maximum yield achieved in the Saratov region was 71.7 c/ha. The average yield in the Lower Volga region reaches 23.9 c/ha, and in the Ural region — 12.7 c/ha. It is recommended for cultivation in the Western and Northern right-bank zones of the Saratov region, as well as in the Northern forest-steppe zone of the Orenburg region. The variety was created on the basis of a hybrid population with participation of such varieties as Lutescens 8, Yershovskaya 8, Donskaya bezostaya, and Levoberzhnaya 2, which ensures its high adaptability and competitiveness.
