Povolzhye Pearl

Povolzhye Pearl is a soft winter wheat variety developed at the Federal Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Southern Volga Region. This medium-maturing variety was bred by individual selection from a hybrid population comprising local Saratov region lines and the Donskaya bezostaya variety. It is recommended for cultivation in the Volgograd and Saratov regions and has been included in the State Register for several regions of the Volga Region and Ural. The average yield of the variety reaches 29.6 c/ha, which is 3.0 c/ha higher than the standard variety Myronovskaya 808, thereby ensuring high stability and balanced yield properties.

The variety is characterized by enhanced winter hardiness and drought resistance, making it resilient to adverse regional climatic conditions. It exhibits resistance to brown rust, powdery mildew, and septoria, while susceptibility to snow mold is assessed as weak or moderate. The weight of 1000 grains varies from 34 to 45 grams, indicating good grain quality. Glutinin and protein content levels meet standard requirements; however, the variety stands out for its improved rheological properties, making it a valuable improver for weak grain samples.

The commercial value of the Povolzhye Pearl variety is determined not only by its enhanced yield but also by the high quality of grain, ensuring economic efficiency in agriculture.
